TIGHTROPE

The series explores the relationship between motherhood, mental wellness and self-love. These portrait paintings were inspired by women who somehow shared their motherhood experience with me and revealed a world of contrast and demands.

As mothers, we are trapped between several worlds, holding them together. We have to choose, daily, between being a career woman, a mum or a wife, and overcome by exhaustion, we forget about our existence. We are fighting against a powerful institution, anxiety, and the loss of ourselves, and we need to find ways to encourage more conversation about motherhood traps, gender roles and power structures in our society.

These paintings praise women who surpassed the gender stigma and society's patriarchal oppression to find freedom and self-love. They also capture snippets of one's life, the invisible fragments that have driven a person to be who she is, and raise questions about social influence, culture, feelings, perceptions, ambivalences, and mental health.

These paintings celebrate cultural identity and the suffering caused by the clash between those who have all the privileges, those who have few, and those who have none.
